If you have been on social media or listened to the radio for the last few days, you know the movie “Girls Trip” is the latest buzz. People are generally mentioning either two out of four of the characters. Dina who is a free-spirited and no holds barred type friend. Ryan is the successful, fly, and famous friend. Then, there’s Lisa. No one says that they are similar to Lisa. People may have even forgotten her name. Being an awkward advocate, I’m here to tell you 5 Reasons you need a Lisa-Type Friend.

5 Reasons you need a Lisa-Type Friend

5  She’s NURTURING & although her overbearing ways are annoying, there’s no doubt that Lisa cares. If you got sick a Lisa-type friend would be by your side with chicken noodle soup, brochures, and a bottle of bleach to disinfect your whole house.

4 She’s RESOURCEFUL. Do you have food in between your teeth? Did you all of sudden get a headache? Do you want to dig up dirt on your meddling coworker? Lisa-type friends have a bag of tricks to assist in comforting you.

3 She’s ENCOURAGING and genuinely happy for you. Lisa-type friends will encourage you until there is absolutely no hope in the situation. Lisa is a die hard cheerleader for her team. You win and she tells everyone that will listen about her friend’s accomplishments. You lose and she’s reminding everyone of your previous wins.

2 She’s a CREATIVE GIVER. It’s important that her gifts are either applicable or creative for a Lisa-type friend. You get a job as a teacher and a Lisa-type friend runs to Pinterest to create a teacher basket. You tell her that you want to write a book and she will give you a journal for Christmas.

1 She’s HOOD CERTIFIED despite being a classic lady-like citizen majority of the time. She’ll break it down on the dance floor, defend her friends, possibly fight (I say possibly because a Lisa -type friend likely has a gun, pepper spray, or taser under that ankle length dress or inside that Goodwill purse. Refer back to #5). A Lisa-type friend will curse when she’s upset and boss up when the time is needed. Her cursing and bossy attitude are normally out of passion or frustration due to her loved ones being hurt or in need.

A Lisa-type friend bites her tongue more often than she should to keep the peace. Her coworkers volunteer her for extra duties because they know it will get it done. She doesn’t get credit for the work nor is she invited to the cookouts.  She knows all of this and still maintains her quiet confidence pulling out the “I don’t start SH!T but I don’t take it either card!” in emergency situations.

A Lisa-type friend may be the butt of jokes to strangers, but she’s the backbone of her family and friends which is all that matters to Lisa. It takes all type of people to make the world turn. Tag you a Lisa. Share this with a Lisa. If you are the Lisa, do something fun and sexy for yourself, because you’re dope and you deserve it.
