When was the last time that you saw a hero?  I bet it was more recent then you think. We are fortunate to have heroes around us daily. You may not witness them leaping buildings or flying high in the sky. They may  lack a cape but instead wear a uniform, business suit, scrubs, or even Uggs. My purpose of periodically doing an Everyday Hero blog is to highlight positivity, spread awareness of ways to help others, and inspire someone to do their part. Today’s everyday hero is Lindsy Bivens. We talked over the phone for our interview.

Lindsy Bivens:

My business is The Author’s Pen, we’re a publishing company with a focus on supporting people first.  My business is expanding however, it’s been an interesting journey. I had the vision in 2012 coming off the heels of a difficult publishing experience. The truth is, I could not execute my vision at the time. One of the biggest hurdles, was not understanding the business side of book development. I had very few clients over those first few years, so I decided to dissolve my business in 2015. I felt like a part of me was dying. I grieved over the decision because I believed it was part of my life’s mission. Then, I had a ‘Come to Jesus’ experience. I surrendered it all to God. Looking back, it’s almost as if things didn’t flourish because I made it more about me than helping my authors.
The phone rang shortly after and it was a referral, my first publishing client. Ironically, she had gone to someone else but didn’t work out and I was available. I had a reason to reinstate my business. This has happened many times in my life and career, just when things look like they aren’t working, they turn in my favor. My business has been expanding ever since.
As time passed and while I was still working in corporate America, I realized that I was merely satisfied with my job. Though I always excelled, I understood that I was capable of more. I felt like something was missing. I had a strong urge to leave my job in corporate America. I wrote a date on the calendar February 16, 2016. It would be the day that I leave my job. When the date rolled around, I felt in my spirit to wait! I was obedient. My husband and I went on an anniversary trip. Shortly after returning to work, the boss called for a meeting. As many of my peers and myself sat in anticipation, he informed us that we were all being let go and would receive a severance package. The severance package was key to helping me finance my transition. It was a blessing in disguise.

LindsyMy faith is very important to me. It’s implemented in my everyday life, business, and volunteer experiences. I was a youth pastor for six years. Although I have a history of helping the youth, it seems that my community to help has shifted. I’ve been attracting many people in leadershipOne feedback is that I allow people to be themselves. Leaders have a harder time of being vulnerable due to all the pressures. I respect people in leadership and allow them to be themselves. The community of Christian leaders is close to my heart because I understand all the pressure and responsibility that they have on their shoulders.

Lindsy: I feel like an everyday hero because I’m an everyday person. I have a family, I have successes and failures, moments of joy and disappointment; yet I’m able to have a positive impact on others. Very often, I’ve seen people moved to tears (of joy) because I helped them realize their potential and manifest their dreams through writing, ministering, or just plain old conversation.  God’s ability to use me is heroic.

My Summary: It was a pleasure interviewing Lindsy. I consider myself a guarded person but immediately felt comfortable. From our conversation, I think that she’s articulate, caring, faith-driven, and meticulous. It brings me joy to know that there are people like her in the world. Please give Lindsy a follow and share her page  https://www.facebook.com/TheAuthorsPen/
