Text concept macro: Letter dices forming word focusIn the fall of October 2013, I was introduced to a life-changing book by Coach Billie Crooks. The book was entitled “One Word that Will Change Your Life.” At that point in my life, I had retired New Year’s resolutions. My resolution had been the same for the last six years. I would be a better person that I was the year before. These resolutions were fulfilled because I grew in several realms each year. However, the problem with that resolution was that it was too vague.

Resolutions are simply goals but aren’t usually accomplished because they lack the how and the why of goal-setting. One Word that Will Change Your Life definitely gives you the why of goal-setting because of the close connection with it. You follow three simple techniques to receive your uniquely assigned word for the upcoming year.  This one word addresses six dimensions of your life which include: mental, physical, emotional, relational, spiritual, and financial.

I recommend that families participate in the One Word challenge. Early elementary children to high school children can experience self-development and focus. It can also create dialogue amongst parents and children throughout the year. Since children receive their word, you can place responsibility of their actions on them by simply inquiring if they are living their one word whole-heartedly.

The One Word challenge can be implemented throughout anytime of the year. It’s never too late for your family to start living their one word. I encourage you to not only participate in this activity but also make a craft of everyone’s one word so it can be seen throughout the year. Crafts vary from t-shirts, pictures, wreaths, vision boards and more. Let your creativity flow and let your one word guide you and your family.
